Century Plants in Bloom

Prickly pear cactus is quite prevalent around Indianola. Spring blooms will
eventually become a succulent red fruit. (4/14/06)

The next stage for this little cactus will be the ripening of the fruit (tunas) that has replaced the flower. Will try to get picture of that if a bird or other animal doesn't beat me to it.

Upper tunas has begun to ripen.

Something removed the top tunas but left the bottom one to continue to ripen.

Most cacti tunas will mature at Indianola druing July. Be careful if you decide to remove a tunas with your bare hands. You will get a handfull of tiny spines that are hard to remove.
