Located on an ancient shell ridge across a marsh to the west of Indian Point, MAGIC RIDGE produces high bird counts each year and it is a hot spot for birders that come to Calhoun County.

The Indianola Cemetery, known as the "Cemetery on the Ridge", is located on Zimmerman road; on the left of Hwy 316 just before you get to the beach road. When you turn onto Zimmerman Road and cross the cattle guard you have also entered a bird refuge known as the "Magic Ridge." There are wading birds in this area year 'round but the area is also on a migratory bird route. A huge number of birds "crash" here each year and this site is the primary reason Calhoun County has a high bird count each year.

Old Indianola - Where is it?
A large amount of the townsite is in Matagorda bay - just
to the left as you drive south along the beach road. To the right there is still land where fine homes, the Casimer Hotel, warehouses, and many businesses once stood.
There's still plenty to see at Indianola, if you know where to look...
